Air Monitoring Evaluation Flowchart

Welcome. This interactive tool is designed to help the responder identify possible hazardous airborne chemicals and radiation. Beginning with oxygen level, the chart outlines air monitoring actions and decisions step by step. For instance, if the air quality is unknown, you will follow a track labeled Unknown, a series of questions to help you decide how to proceed. If the type of hazard is known or suspected, the tracks labeled Known Response Types and Known Target Chemicals provide regulatory data and detection levels for many chemicals or radiation, suggest what monitoring equipment to use to test for them, and provide links to online user manuals for each piece of equipment. You can also view additional information by clicking on any of the associated NIOSH or WebWISER links.
